It’s Monday, so what?

By Usman Ibrahim Khalilulahi

There are series of anxieties that comes with Mondays, due to a misconception of it being an ‘important day’.

Monday(s), are first day of the week, in countries that adopt it as their first day of the week. It is the day of the week between Sunday and Tuesday.

In countries that adopt the “Sunday” as first day, it is the second day of the week.

The name Monday was derived from an Old English Mōnandæg and Middle English Monenday, originally a translation of Latin “dies lunae “day of the Moon”. (Hyperlink:

“Truth is, Mondays are not special.”

For most, Monday is attached to a prestige as most events, activities, conferences, prefer to start with it.

A missing factor most uncovered is, people plan lots of activities on Monday leading them to having a dry 24 hours and an unsatisfied week.

The first hard truth, Mondays are not special. You need to have the ‘all days are important’ syndrome.

To achieve this, you need to plan before each day. What you should consider are but not limited to,

Where Would I Be?

Here, you should be able to identify where you’ll be. From the Gym, to the lecture or work, the coffee shop, etc. This gives a pictorial overview of your day.

What would I work on?

This is the most important. As this will determine if you’re just engaging in activities or really being productive.
You should be able to list all you’ll do for the day while being specific.

Personal Development

When you wake up every day, make sure you’ve added value to yourself. Don’t sleep as you wake up.

Under this section, you should specify what things you’ll be doing to improve yourself.

Will you be reading a book? Attending a seminar? Whatever it is that will make you better as a person.

“Spare 10 minutes to access yourself everyday”

In all, time shouldn’t be missed. Each of the activities should be time bound.

After end of each day, spare 10 minutes to access if you were able to complete your to-dos or not. It’ll be help you know if you’re engaging in activities or being productive.

When next is Monday, be sure not over important it, because, it’s just like any other day.
